Something I thought of after the event, was a handy piece of task management (aka a to do list) software that I was introduced to recently called Things!
http://www.culturedcode.com/things/
its for OS X and there is even an iphone app that can sync with the desktop version. Its got a lovely straightforward interface and is amazingly simple to use.
Its current in beta and as such is free to download until the final release is made public, there are a few other pieces of software that do a similiar thing checkout this page for a brief comparison.
